Peninsula of Pelješac - map
On the map of Pelješac Peninsula located in the Southern part of Croatia in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County and approximately 85 km long, large saltworks in the town of Ston can be immediately noticed with their famous walls surrounding it. The peninsula then shows several mountains, vast vineyards, gentle coves with developed shellfish aquaculture and numerous sandy and gravel beaches, while on the very top of Pelješac Peninsula there is Lovište, a picturesque tourist and fishermen settlement known for its large cove and, most of all, for its preserved nature and hospitable hosts.
The map of Pelješac Peninsula shows the connection with the mainland; the longitudinal road connects all the small towns and villages on Pelješac, in particular those that profiled themselves as tourist destinations. In addition, Pelješac can be reached by regular ferry lines from the town of Ploče (several times a day). The Pelješac bridge that is being built at the moment will greatly assist the people of Pelješac, so that important information will be added to the map of Pelješac. This will mean that all guests and visitors of Pelješac Peninsula will have the possibility to arrive fast and easily from the mainland from two directions thus reaching any individual town or village on Pelješac Peninsula. Furthermore, the construction of the bridge will enable the people of Pelješac to reach Dubrovnik on good roads built on Pelješac much faster, avoiding passing the border at Neum, all of which will be subsequently marked on the new map of Pelješac.
The map of Pelješac Peninsula can assist in finding all those tourist places that can be of interest to guests both for their accommodation and vacation and for enjoying the local and sea specialties, i.e. visiting the cultural and historical monuments.
On the map of Pelješac, the largest and touristically most famous is the town of Orebić. It has developed tourist facilities that are significantly enhanced by the nearby villages of Viganj, Trpanj, Potomje and others with their sports, wine and gastronomic offer. When visiting Orebić where he stayed for several days, George Bernard Shaw said that Orebić was a ‘paradise on earth’ with its lookout on the nearby hill dominated by the Franciscan monastery and the church of Our Lady of Angels and its slender bell tower.
Orebić is situated on the Southern coast at the foot of Saint Elijah, the 961 meters high and largest mountain on Pelješac. The mountain is much visited because it provides an extraordinary view of the archipelago in front of Orebić - the islands of Korčula, Mljet and Lastovo; the outlines of the Italian coastline can be seen if the weather is good. Pelješac Peninsula is separated from the island of Korčula by the Pelješac channel, which is extremely interesting to guests who love water sports, in particular sailing. Due to unequal heating of the land and sea, in particular in the afternoon, there is a light Maestral wind every day used by guests for sailing in particular. It should be noted that Trstenica, the largest and most famous sandy beach in Orebić, is approximately 1.5 km long. This is why Orebić is perceived as an ideal tourist destination.
