Weather in Orebić and the Surroundings

Orebić, a touristic oasis of Pelješac, located on the Southern side of the peninsula directed towards the sun during the entire day, provides Orebić with a large number of sunny days in a year. A mild Mediterranean climate along the entire Adriatic coast, in particular in the South, ensures pleasant temperatures during the entire year.

Orebić is protected by the Saint Elijah mountain massif from the North heating fast in the sun thus increasing the average daily temperature so that the winters are without snow and morning ice, while the summers are refreshed with the pleasant afternoon Maestral.

The weather is in particular interesting at the time of the wine grape maturation on the Southern slopes of Pelješac Peninsula near Orebić, where mostly the Plavac Mali wine grape is grown from which some of the best red wines in Croatia known as Dingač and Postup are produced drawing their strength and character from the daily and yearly insolation, the sun being reflected from the surface of the sea having an impact on the vineyard plantations. This increases the exposure of the grapevine to the sun, so that the maturation of the grapes and the forming of natural sugars is better and more intense.

The weather in Orebić across seasons enables a pleasant stay and work in the open throughout the year. Due to the pleasant and mild weather, almost every family in their yards and gardens grows various plants and flowers as well as Mediterranean fruits such as lemons, oranges, tangerines and other citrus fruits during the entire year, while favourable weather conditions are beneficial also for the many vineyards and olive orchards. It was already mentioned that excellent wines are produced here but also excellent extra virgin olive oils, so that numerous oil millers in their display cases have awards from various olive oil exhibitions held every year. These awards confirm that the produce is excellent thanks primarily to the favourable climate, which means weather apt for growing and developing all of the mentioned plants. All this attracts numerous tourists and passers-by from the entire world who come to Orebić during most of the year, however mostly from May to October if possible because of the pleasant weather when they can enjoy the sea, walks, cycling, local specialities and excellent wine.
