Your pleasant walk lasts about 20 minutes and takes you up through thick pine and Cypress woods, breathing fresh clean air, with wonderful panoramic views of Orebic and its archepalago of islands, the town of Korcula and the Island of Miljet at every turn.
The complex at the top comprises the 15th Century Franciscan Monastery, the Maritime museum and the old Sea Captain's cemetary, 152m above the crystal clear mirror of the Adriatic. The monastery's bell tower nestles in hundred year old cypress trees at the foot of domineering Mt Ilja (Mount Elijah). The Maritime Museum displays valuable relics from Orebic and Dalamatia's rich seafaring history.
The journey continues up to the early christian sanctuary near the village of 'Karmen', taking in the old church at 'Gospa od Karmena' and the ruins of the ex-Count of Trstenica's Court. After this visit there's time to stop and drink some excellent home-made wine on the terrace of a nearby farmhouse, before continuing down to Orebic's town centre, with its old Captain's houses and gardens, and its 19th century well, where the ½ day excursion ends.
