Mostar – Journey to the Orient
Our journey to the Orient begins at 08:00, or as individually arranged. We drive with a modern tourbus through the Peljesac Peninsula, with its extensive vineyards (the famous wines of Dingač, Postup, Plavac), olive groves and picturesque villages. In the Town of Ston we see the dalamatian 'Great Wall' (at 6 km long, the longest walls in the world after the Great Wall of China). Then we continue on up the Adriatic Coast through the Neretva Delta till we reach Mostar around 11:30.
Mostar is the political, economical and cultural capital of the state of Herzegovina-Neretva, and lies in the Neretva Valley on the slopes of the Veleza, Huma and Cabulje mountains, around 60-80 m above sea-level. It was founded by Count Stjepan Kosača and the oldest written documents about the city date back to the first half of the 15th Century.
Over the centuries Mostar has been occupied by many different civilizations, and each of them has left its mark. It was an important trading centre of the Ottoman Empire (Kunjundiluk), who's market places can stilll be visited today. During the trip we visit the Old Bridge, the partly-restored Turkish Bazaar, a mosque and a typical Turkish house.
Around 15:30 Uhr we begin our return trip, stopping to take photos at the ancient turkish fortress of Počitelj, and arriving back in Orebic around 18:30 Uhr
